To solve the formula M = 2P + 3Q for the variable Q

Q=M-2P/3

because in order to solve for a variable you have to get alone. Make sense?

M = 2P + 3Q
SUBTRACT 2P FROM BOTH SIDES
3Q = M - 2P
DIVIDE BOTH SIDES BY 3
Q = (M - 2P)/3
