Why were there tension between American Indians and the Spanish missionaries in North America

Native leaders let missionaries teach them Catholicism and Timucuas worked on Spanish farms. They became dependent on Native Americans for food. Drought may have caused food supplies of the Native Americans to be low and conflict arose. When the colony leaders returned in 1590 the settlers were missing.
