the slope of the line contatining (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
so
given points (-2,5) and (4,-4)
(x,y)
x1=-2
y1=5
x2=4
y2=-4

slope=(-4-5)/(4-(-2))=(-9)/(4+2)=-9/6=-3/2

slope is -3/2
